The privacy
of this courtyard is preserved by a wall of acid-etched glass, natural
stone and espaliered fruit trees. Fragrant shrubs and white-flowering
perennials make this elegant space ideally suited for evening enjoyment.
HIGHLIGHTS

Curtain can be enjoyed from both inside and outside the courtyard. Horsetail
(Equisetum hyemale), a vigorous perennial rush, provides a vertical
element that echoes the fall of water and softens the stone walls.
- The courtyard
provides a protective microclimate
for tender, rare and unusual trees.
- Surrounding
the courtyard are conifers and
crabapples (Malus spp.) pruned and trained into
espaliered formsan architectural silhouette
and experimental green accent to the glass wall.
- Openings
in the glass wall offer glimpses of the
perennials and grasses in the Entry Garden Walk.
