This NEW series will take you through all the stages of successful and sustainable gardening - from planning your garden to harvesting and preparing for the next growing season. Each class will have both outdoor and indoor components and you will leave with a container planted with seasonally appropriate vegetables. Classes will be taught by many of our star instructors with a few special guest appearances. Suitable for those with small balconies or large properties.

Veggies in the City: Getting Back to Basics
[PG10W20] Connie Hunter, Marjorie Mason, Elizabeth Stewart & Paul Zammit
An introductory class covering all the basic information you will need to plan your garden: soil, tools, timing of crops, and creating a layout to maximize food production. Learn how to start seeds and take a few home to try. You’ll also learn about and plant your own container with early spring vegetables such as beets, kale and lettuces. Please bring lunch.

Getting Started: Spring Crops &
Veggie Garden Designs

Learn to grow and protect vegetables that grow in cooler weather, to control pests and diseases, to build raised beds and create new ones as well as innovative techniques for small spaces. You’ll also plant a take-home container with a variety of different lettuces, chard, peas and more. Please bring lunch.

Tending Your Plot: Summer Crops &
Growing Techniques

This session will cover all the vegetables you know and love (which thrive in warm weather) and the techniques necessary to grow them. We’ll cover mulching, staking, vertical growing, weeding, watering and early harvests. You’ll learn to grow tomatoes, peppers, herbs and more in containers – and plant one up for home. Pleasebring lunch.

The Harvest: Enjoying the Fruits of Your Labour

Now is the time to really enjoy the fruits of your labour. This session will include a cooking and canning lesson with a special guest chef and a session on what vegetables to plant for a late harvest. You’ll take home a container with new vegetables and herbs. Please bring lunch.

Planning for Next Year:
Storing, Seed Saving and Overwintering

Join us for the annual TBG Harvest Day celebration and learn how to harvest and store special crops such as potatoes, beets, squashes and carrots.You’ll also learn how to save your seeds, what crops to overwinter, which ones to pull out and how to plan for next year’s garden. The take-home container for this final class will take you through the winter months with herbs, sprouts and lettuces.
